Crain’s Chicago Business: CTA Red Line to get $1-billion makeover
CTA Red Line to get $1-billion makeover: Gov. Pat Quinn and Mayor Rahm Emanuel Thursday announced they’ve lined up $1 billion in funds for a variety of projects that will begin next year, including new track and power systems, and the rebuilding or renovation of 11 stations.
What changes would you like to see on the Red Line (or any of the other lines, for that matter)?

For $1 billion, I’d like to see (and this is just a start):
- fire pits and fixings to make S’mores at all stations
- benches to be replaced with upholstered love seats
- USB or power outlets to charge phones
- PA system to play soul and R & B so people can form their own “Soul Train” lines when the next train is more than five minutes away
- slides to street level from some of the higher platforms on the line
- power washing every day so no station ever smells like urine for more than a few hours
Seconded.
Can the upholstered love seats and the slides be heated in the winter? If it means I have to give up the s’mores, forget it. Otherwise, yeah, that’d be neat.
